Fascia and soffit
Fascia and soffit, done with the gutters
Fascia is the board your gutter hangs on. Soffit is the panel under the overhang. We replace rotted fascia boards, wrap them in aluminum and install vented vinyl soffit, along with your gutters.
- Rotted fascia replaced
- Aluminum fascia wrap
- Vented vinyl soffit

Fascia
Rotted fascia boards and aluminum wrap
The fascia is the trim board along the roof edge, and the gutter fastens to it. When a gutter overflows or leaks, the water soaks that board and it rots. Rot usually comes from water, so we look for the cause rather than only replacing the wood.
Once the board is sound, aluminum wrap keeps the wood out of the weather and takes painting off your list. Wrap can hide rot, so soft boards should be replaced rather than covered.

- Fascia board replacementSoft or rotted boards are cut out and replaced with new.
- Find the causeOverflow, a leak or a missing drip edge. Fix that or it rots again.
- Aluminum fascia wrapCovers the board so rain and sun do not reach the wood.
- Replace, then wrapWrap hides soft wood but does not fix it.

Soffit
Vinyl soffit, vented where the attic needs air
Soffit is the panel under the overhang that closes in the rafters. Vented soffit has small openings that let outside air into the attic. Solid soffit has none. Both look much alike from the ground, so we choose by what your attic needs.
Airflow matters because a damp, stuffy attic can grow moisture and mold. Building code sets how much vent area an attic needs. Vinyl soffit does not rot the way wood does.
- Vented panelsLet outside air in, so the attic can breathe.
- Solid panelsUsed where no air is needed, such as over a porch.
- Vinyl does not rotIt stays put when wood would soften and peel.
- Blocked ventsInsulation pushed into the eaves can cover vents. We look when we are there.
- Chosen to suit the houseSoffit comes in different colors and finishes.

Why these get done with the gutters
The gutter hangs on the fascia, and the soffit sits right under it. Taking the old gutter off shows the fascia and the soffit in one look. Fixing the wood first and hanging the new gutter after means no one tears out new work later.
- Gutter comes downThe old gutter is removed, which exposes the fascia.
- Wood is fixedRotted boards are replaced and soffit is installed.
- Fascia is wrappedAluminum goes over the sound board.
- New gutter goes upHung on solid wood, sealed and pitched.

Questions
Quick answers
- What is the difference between soffit and fascia?
- Fascia is the trim board along the roof edge, and the gutter attaches to it. Soffit is the panel under the overhang, between the fascia and the house wall. Fascia faces out. Soffit faces down.
- Can fascia be wrapped, or does it need replacing?
- Sound wood can be wrapped. Soft or rotted wood should be replaced first, because wrap hides rot but does not fix it. Valera looks at the boards at the estimate.
- Why does fascia rot?
- Mostly from water: an overflowing or clogged gutter, a leak, or a missing drip edge. Replacing the board without fixing the cause means it rots again, so we look for the cause as well.
- What is vented soffit for?
- It lets outside air into the attic. Vented soffit has small openings, and without airflow a damp attic can grow moisture and mold. Vented or solid depends on what your attic needs.
- Can you do soffit and fascia without new gutters?
- Yes, they are services on their own. We often do them with gutters because the gutter has to come off to reach the boards, and doing it all at once avoids redoing work.
